Claustrophobia

Fremantle Prison is one of the most bleak spaces in all of Western Australia - this corridor was so claustrophobic and stark that it was hard to stay in there....but it was better than being in the gallows room that it passes by....a very odd place to visit. I am glad however that it still stands, for it provides an extremely interesting look at what it might have felt like to be imprisoned in a place like this.

Ok, so this isn’t my regular ‘happy memory’ type of post, but the photos I took at the Prison, while visually interesting, could never be considered exactly beautiful or joyful! Don’t worry though, I’ll be less of a downer in future posts – I just found the difference in atmosphere that the aesthetics of this place created fascinating; the way a place looks can make such a distinct atmospheric impression!
